Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish says that they might have to sell Marc Guehi this summer if he does not sign a new contract at the club.
Guehi captained Crystal Palace to winning the Community Shield 3-2 on penalties against Liverpool following a 2-2 draw.
Liverpool are interested in bringing in Guehi, who is now into the final year of his contract at the Eagles.
When asked if they would sell Guehi if he did not sign a new contract Parish said: “We’d have to do that, of course for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately.
“Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn’t afford to lose both.
“We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.
“We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
But Parish did also add that days like beating Liverpool in the Community shield are important in keeping both Guehi and Eze, who has been linked to Arsenal this summer, at the club.
“Of course, but players come and going football clubs, you know? I mean, it’s a life cycle, isn’t it? Hopefully they’ll still be here. That’s what I’d like.”
Palace have also discovered that they have been unsuccessful in their appeal to be reinstated in the Europa League.
Due to Palace’s former co-owner John Textor also owning shares in Lyon, who qualified for the Europa League with a higher league finish than the Eagles, Parish’s side were demoted to the Conference League.
Palace appealed for the Court of Arbitration for Sport to reverse the decision, but they have instead sided with UEFA, much to Parish’s disappointment.
“I think we should be in the Europa league,” he said after the Community Shield. “I think everybody, outside of a very few people think should be in the Europa League.”
But Parish is hoping the club continue to win more silverware in future.
“It’s easy to get into a mentality that, you know, just staying in the league is good enough, but that’s not good enough for the manager, not good enough for the players, and not good enough, I suppose, at the end of the day, for us.
“Now, you know, we’ve achieved these things, and it’s a bit of a drug, so hopefully we can keep doing it.”
