Dominic Calvert-Lewin will aim to extend a four-game scoring streak when Leeds United meet Crystal Palace this weekend, a fixture that also recalls Steve Morison’s brief high in a bruising spell at Elland Road.

“Did I want to go to Leeds? No, I didn’t. Ultimately my hand was forced.” He told The Athletic in 2019.

Leeds have not done a league double over Palace since 1994/95. They came closest in 2012/13, winning 2-1 then leading 2-1 at Selhurst Park in March before Glenn Murray equalised with six minutes left. Morison scored twice that day, his final goals of the campaign.

Morison arrived in a swap for Luciano Becchio, who remains a cult favourite almost 13 years after leaving. Backed by Neil Warnock as having everything to succeed, even a potential legend, he also battled fitness problems early on.

He had struck 15 in his previous Championship season with Millwall and nine in his first Premier League campaign with Norwich. His second year at Carrow Road was far quieter, one goal in 19 league games, with four starts.

He then scored in only two games before that season ended. Warnock took charge of his final Leeds match the following month. Morison returned to Millwall on loan in the summer, added two Leeds goals in 2014/15, earned respect for his work-rate, then left for Millwall permanently in 2015.

“I failed at Leeds, I totally get that. I failed because of myself, not because of anyone else.”
