Crystal Palace head into January needing reinforcements after a punishing schedule. Oliver Glasner is confident of adding one or two, but spending will be restrained and Steve Parish accepts the summer shortfall must be addressed.

The Athletic reports that Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson is the main January target, a deal complicated by Spurs paying £47.5 million in summer 2023. Palace also like Joe Willock and Christos Tzolis, while centre-back Ismael Doukoure is not a priority now.

Glasner wants ready-made attackers. Daichi Kamada is out until at least mid-February and Ismaila Sarr is expected to be at AFCON with Senegal for most of January. Cover at No 10 is thin, Romain Esse is not relied upon and Christantus Uche is seen more as a striker, while Daniel Munoz’s knee issue could force right wing-back cover.

Outgoings are unlikely. Glasner expects captain Marc Guehi to stay until the summer when his deal expires. Only an absurd offer would change that, and Naouirou Ahamada is the one who could depart, possibly on loan, with youngsters needed.

Palace do not need to sell to buy and have no PSR concerns, helped by Eberechi Eze’s £60 million move to Arsenal. Funds are available, but the club intend to be selective amid a heavy schedule.

Without signings, their aims this season look remote. The squad is too small for four competitions, limited rotation raises injury risk and a lack of competition for places can dull performance.
