Daniel Farke has backed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to push for an England recall, while stressing the choice rests with Thomas Tuchel. The Leeds United manager says the striker could return if his form and fitness hold.
Calvert-Lewin endured a slow start at Leeds, but his introduction as a substitute against Manchester City sparked the upturn. He has led the line since and driven the resurgence. According to Leedsunited.news, Farke set out his view at his pre-Brentford press conference.
He made clear the first task is sustaining this level across the season and that a late World Cup call this summer could follow only if rhythm and confidence are maintained. He pointed to Calvert-Lewin’s 11 England caps and strong strike rate, but underlined that selection is Thomas Tuchel’s decision.
With Lukas Nmecha ruled out for Brentford this weekend, the responsibility up front falls squarely on Calvert-Lewin as Leeds chase another statement result. Farke has also described him as one of the Premier League’s best in recent weeks.
His three-goal run has lifted him towards an exclusive Leeds landmark and up the Premier League scoring chart. At present, only two English players have more league goals, Phil Foden, not a direct positional rival, and Danny Welbeck. If this streak continues, he could yet be Harry Kane’s understudy.
