Barcelona’s first official board meeting for 2026 was held earlier today, and on the agenda for the meeting was the decision over the club’s next presidential election.
The current board of directors were to pick a date between March 15 and June 15 as per the club statutes, but it remained very clear that Joan Laporta was of the idea of completing all the formalities quickly.
After all, the board believed that having the newly elected members in office early would impart stability in the administration towards the business end of the season.
Now, as relayed by RAC1, the date for the presidential election has been set, and it will be held on the 15th of March 2026. It will, thus, be conducted at the very beginning of the stipulated window.
The board initially had two dates shortlisted – March 15th and March 22nd, specifically because they both coincide with games at the Spotify Camp Nou to boost the member attendance.

Now that the date has been selected, it is only a matter of time before the official announcement is made. Once public, the current president, Laporta, will resign along with any other participating members.
As it stands, the current president will face opposition from Xavi Vilajoana, Victor Font and Marc Ciria, but he is still considered to be an overwhelming favourite to continue holding office for another term at least.
After all, there is a sense of satisfaction for the team’s turnaround in his ongoing tenure and how they are again challenging for all titles.
Doubts persist over the financial situation, but the sporting results may be enough to pull him through the elections.
