FIFA’s president has proposed selling shares in the World Cup. The $20 billion plan was first reported by The Times, with funding intended to support amateur football and infrastructure in the country.

Trunda, elected last year as head of the Czech federation, said: “Of course, we need more details, but personally I think FIFA’s intentions will have a positive impact.”

Under the proposal, each of FIFA’s 211 members would receive 35 million euros if they accept it.

His support is one of the few to diverge from the wider reaction across the game. The European Club Association has raised concerns, FFF president Philippe Diallo has expressed surprise, the UK Prime Minister has condemned the plan, and both UEFA and Concacaf have criticised it.
