Kicker reports that Dayot Upamecano has decided to extend with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga record champions have been working intensively with the 35-times-capped French international on a contract extension since the beginning of the month. With the final details worked out last week, all that remained was for Upamecano to make a final decision this weekend.
After previously insisting that they would not issue an ultimatum to Upamecano, both Bayern Munich chief sporting executive Max Eberl and honorary club President spoke on the need for the defender to make up his mind in public statements yesterday. Eberl merely spoke of the need for Upamecano to commit while Hoeneß (true to form) blatantly criticized Upamecano’s agent.
The 27-year-old’s new contract should be officially confirmed shortly. Sport Bild reports that an exit clause following the 2026/27 season has been negotiated. The German tabloid claims that the €65m-valued defender can depart Bayern in 18 months time for around €70m if he can maintain his estimated market value.
