Barcelona have reignited their pursuit of Julián Álvarez, stepping up efforts to engage with the striker’s agent, per Sport and Jijantes.

Deco, joined by João Amaral, arrived in Madrid last night for talks with Fernando Hidalgo to assess the situation and potential pathways.

Atlético Madrid’s firm refusal has made any deal highly complex, so the focus of the meeting is to map strategy and decide next moves.

During the World Cup, Álvarez said a transfer would suit all parties and help him fulfil a dream, yet Atlético have not shifted position.

Chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has reinforced that stance, stating they do not intend to sell and would reject offers of 100, 150 or 200 million for Julián Álvarez.

Relations between the clubs are strained. Atlético have filed complaints with the RFEF and FIFA over an alleged improper approach, arguing Barcelona contacted the player without permission despite his contract running to June 2030.

Barcelona’s hierarchy believe the complaint will not result in sanctions, pointing to Álvarez’s public wish to leave.

Even so, Deco and Amaral are seeking any opening in Madrid. The talks do not mean a deal is close, if anything the move remains deeply complicated while Atlético hold their line. Barcelona will persist while any opportunity, however small, exists.
