West Brom are searching for a permanent replacement to Ryan Mason

West Brom are in talks with Eric Ramsay over the managerial vacancy at the Hawthorns.

According to Sky Sports (09.35), the Baggies are in discussions with the former Man United and Chelsea coach about potentially replacing Ryan Mason.

The Midlands outfit are seeking a third managerial appointment in the last 12 months after the 34-year-old was dismissed earlier this week.

A 2-1 loss to Leicester City proved the final straw, with goals from Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu consigned Albion to a 10th straight defeat away from home in the league.

This was Mason’s first role as manager in his career after previously working as a coach at Tottenham Hotspur, but he lasted just 26 league games before being sacked.

West Brom hold Eric Ramsay talks

West Brom have reportedly held talks with Ramsay regarding the vacancy at the club, as owner Shilen Patel set his sights on a swift permanent appointment.

The 34-year-old has worked as a coach at both Man United and Chelsea, but is currently in charge of MLS side Minnesota United.

He was previously linked with taking over at the Hawthorns in the summer, but Mason was instead appointed.

It’s believed that the club have made contact with the Welshman regarding taking on the role, but it remains to be seen whether he will be the next head coach of the Championship side.

MLS is currently not in action, with their campaign ending in November with a loss in the play-off semi-finals to San Diego FC.

If Ramsay is appointed, he will be taking over a side currently sitting 18th in the table following that 2-1 loss to the Foxes.

Their next game comes in the third round of the FA Cup with a trip to face Swansea City on 11 January, but it is unclear whether an official appointment will be made by then.

Eric Ramsay would be a big risk for West Brom

West Brom hired an unproven coach in Mason, and he lasted only a few months in charge, so the warning signs are there for Ramsay.

While he has at least worked as a manager before, the pressure of working at the Hawthorns is incomparable to in MLS.

He earned a reputation as a smart coach when he was at Chelsea, but questions lingered on what he did at Man United, as he was working under Ole Gunnar Solskjær during a tumultuous period of his tenure.
