Donyell Malen joins Roma on loan

AS Roma have completed the signing of Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, bringing an end to his brief spell in the Premier League.

Villa confirmed the 26-year-old’s departure, though the club did not disclose the fee involved. Roma, meanwhile, have clarified that the move is structured as an initial loan, which is expected to become permanent next summer through an obligation to buy.

Malen leaves the Midlands just a year after arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2025. During his time at Villa Park, he scored 10 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions, including seven goals this season.

Malen struggled to secure a regular starting role under Unai Emery as he made only five Premier League starts during the current campaign.
