Lucas Silvestre, assistant and son of Dorival Júnior, will take charge of Corinthians for the third time as interim on Wednesday, with Dorival suspended for the fifth round meeting with Coritiba. The head coach was sent off for dissent during the draw with Cruzeiro.
According to Meu Timao, Silvestre oversaw two league games last October while Dorival served a ban after a red card against Internacional. Corinthians beat Mirassol 3-0 at Neo Química Arena, then lost 3-1 at Vila Belmiro to Santos.
In August 2020, after Dorival tested positive for Covid-19, he guided Athletico Paranaense through defeats to Santos 3-1 and Palmeiras 1-0. In August 2023, he led São Paulo to goalless draws with Botafogo and Bahia in the Brasileiro.
A graduate in physical education, Silvestre has worked alongside Dorival since 2010, forming a long-standing partnership. The pair have been together at Santos, Flamengo, São Paulo and Athletico Paranaense, and with the Brazil national team. Inside clubs he is noted for tactical insight and opposition analysis.
Across his interim stints, his sides have taken 27.78% of points, scoring four times, an average of 0.7 per game, and conceding seven, 1.17 per match. Corinthians seek to move on from their Paulista semi-final exit to Novorizontino and maintain a bright league start, sitting third on seven points. Kick-off is at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena.
