Doubt Ange Postecoglou at your peril – it’s great to see him back

It’s Groundhog Day again, former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been appointed to another big job, and the doubters are out in full force.
When will they learn? I was naive enough to think that after he guided Tottenham to Europa League glory in May and ended the North London club’s 17-year wait for a trophy that Ange’s doubters would fade away.

Upon Ange being appointed Nottingham Forest manager yesterday lunchtime, established football writer Henry Winter said on X : “Ange Postecoglou is not an upgrade on Nuno Espírito Santo. Nuno improved Forest players. How many Spurs players did Postecoglou improve? Angeball, high line, occasionally high and calamitous, is also different to Nuno’s counterattacking style, so Forest players will have to adjust. If the former Spurs manager is appointed in time he should get a lively reception at his first Forest game – away to Arsenal.”

“Postecoglou has to hit the ground running, finish 7th minimum and learn from Nuno’s mistake (deliberate or otherwise) and not talk about his owner in public. No pressure. Good luck to him but it’s a gamble.”
The disrespect from Winter is preposterous. It is also lazy journalism. How on earth can you say Ange is not an upgrade on Nuno Espírito Santo?
Was Henry Winter living under a rock when Ange won the Europa League with a double-digit injury list throughout the entirety of last season?
It’s no slight on Nuno because he is a decent manager, but the outgoing Forest boss has won three trophies in his 13-year managerial career. This is in compassion to Ange’s 13 career trophy wins. The two are not even remotely comparable.

For the avoidance of doubt Mr Winter, Ange is a serial winner. Undoubtedly, Nottingham Forest will become one of the favourites to win the Europa League this season. Because it’s what Ange does. He wins.
With the expected departure of Brendan Rodgers from Celtic at the end of the current campaign, it would have been unbelievable to see Ange return to Celtic. Sadly, due to the current boardroom regime it seems fantasy now. But, I think everyone is delighted to see the Hoops’ former Treble winning manager back in the game.
Write him off at your peril. Ange always has the last laugh, mate.
