Manchester United badly need midfield reinforcements, and the sooner the better.
Ruben Amorim demanded Carlos Baleba’s signing but his valuation meant INEOS could not deliver in the summer as they prioritised the attack.
And now the Cameroonian’s form has fallen off a cliff, as a result of which alternate options are being explored.
The Red Devils have shifted their focus to Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest. The Englishman impressed Amorim during the sides’ recent face-off.
Liverpool are also interested in the 23-year-old but he is expected to snub them in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
However, as per The Daily Mail, Forest will resist all attempts from United to recruit their talisman in January.
“Nottingham Forest are determined to disregard any approach for star midfielder Elliot Anderson during the January transfer window.
“Anderson has had a stunning campaign so far, establishing himself as a key member of the England starting XI, as well as becoming one of the most impressive players in the Premier League.
“Manchester United are one of the clubs thought to admire Anderson, who joined Forest from Newcastle for £35 million in summer 2024.
“But at Forest, there is currently no temptation to consider offers for Anderson in the middle of the season.”
As per previous reports, Sean Dyche’s side had slapped an extraordinary £100 million price tag on his head, but United were confident they could get their man for close to half that amount.
The 20-time English league champions are also interested in Joao Gomes, Adam Wharton, and Andre, and it will be interesting to see who they end up landing.
