Manchester United target Emiliano Martinez is unlikely to accept offers from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray as he wants to stay in a top league before the 2026 World Cup.
The Red Devils are looking at goalkeeping options to bolster the department this summer.
They have been linked with players like LOSC Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi.
Depending on Andre Onana’s future, it is also seen as possible that the club makes a move for a more experienced keeper. As a result, they have also been credited with an interest in FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen and Aston Villa’s Martinez.
It has been reported that Martinez has “offered” himself to United as Villa may need to sell due to PSR problems.
Turkish outlet Fotomac also report that the Red Devils have an advantage over two serious contenders for his signature.
It is stated that “a hot development has occurred regarding Emiliano Martinez, who was listed high on the goalkeeper transfer list of Trendyol Super League giants Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.”
The latest news is that the veteran keeper will decide his next move in line with his chances of playing for Argentina in the World Cup next year, as the nation aim to defend their title.
The news is described as “shocking” to the Turkish duo as Martinez wants to continue his career in “a highly competitive league.”
Consequently, he is seen as “unlikely to accept” offers from Turkey at this time.
Nonetheless, it has been reported that United’s interest in the keeper has been overblown in the media and the reality of the situation is his agent trying to drum up interest in the player.
It has also been reported that there is a chance he stays at Villa despite the frequent links away from the club.
Martinez made 53 appearances in all competitions last year, keeping 16 clean sheets in the process.
