Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can has extended his contract after suffering a left ACL rupture.

He joined the club in January 2020 and now wears the armband. The player said on the club website that he was grateful for the support during a difficult period.

The extension keeps the Germany international, who has 48 caps and two goals, at BVB for one more season. He sustained the injury a few weeks ago against Bayern Munich.

The 32-year-old defender has been ruled out of the World Cup. His aim is to recover as quickly as possible, return to the pitch with his team-mates and enjoy success with the club.

His previous deal had been due to expire this summer.
