According to ExpressAndStar.com, midfielder Jordan Henderson was taken to hospital with a wrist injury after tumbling over an advertising hoarding during England’s post-match celebrations at the Azteca Stadium, and the Brentford player’s tournament could be over.
A superb 3-2 win over Mexico set up a Saturday quarter-final with Norway, with Black Country ace Jude Bellingham netting twice.
Defender Jarrel Quansah was sent off after a VAR review with England 2-1 up, leaving them to play most of the second half with 10 men. Harry Kane then scored from the spot to extend the lead, before Wolves striker Raul Jimenez converted a penalty for the hosts.
Henderson was an unused substitute and had earlier been booked for his actions on the touchline. The 36-year-old was carried off on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel said he felt mixed emotions, proud of the display but saddened by Henderson’s injury. He called the wrist problem serious and said he did not yet know the next steps, having only been briefed by the team doctor.
