Tensions have emerged between Enzo Fernández and Chelsea after the midfielder cast suggested he was unsure about his long-term future at the club and admitted he would like to live in Madrid.
Head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed the Argentina international will miss Chelsea’s next two fixtures - the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City - following his remarks.
“By decision of the club - and with my involvement - Enzo will not be available for tomorrow’s game or the match against Manchester City,” Rosenior said. “It is disappointing that he expressed himself in that way. I have nothing bad to say about him, but a line was crossed.”
Despite the sanction, Rosenior stressed the situation does not signal the end of Fernández’s time at Stamford Bridge.
“The door is not closed to Enzo,” he added. “This is only a sanction. We need to protect the club’s culture.”
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a then British-record fee and remains a key figure in midfield, contributing 12 goals and six assists in 46 appearances this season.
