The Blues have taken just one point from their last two games, and will be desperate to ensure they don’t lose further ground on the teams above.

Enzo Maresca gives Joao Pedro update

Chelsea head into the game on the back of beating Lincoln in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, but they were far from convincing.

The Blues will need to show a significant improvement against the Seagulls, but they face a tough task with their mounting injury list.

Maresca confirmed Cole Palmer is out until after the international break with a groin issue that’s been causing him issues, whilst there’s a real shortage at centre back.

Tosin Adarabioyo is sidelined with a calf injury, whilst Wesley Fofana is also absent after suffering a concussion against Lincoln.

Chelsea also have a lack of options upfront, with Pedro once again expected to lead the line, but Maresca revealed the Brazilian has been struggling with his own fitness issues.

“Joao Pedro and Josh both had their first session yesterday [Thursday],” Maresca said.

“They are both better. Josh is better from being ill, Joao is better from the problem, and they are both available.”

Pedro has made a brilliant start to the season, and given Liam Delap’s injury he’s become even more important for the Blues and they desperately need him to stay fit.

Chelsea need to return to winning

Saturday’s game against Brighton is the first of three home games in the next seven days, and kicks off a really important run ahead of the international break.
