Enzo Maresca has addressed James Trafford’s situation amid Leeds United interest, indicating the goalkeeper’s future will be assessed during the window as Leeds remain in discussions over their top target.

Trafford’s next move was expected to be decided after this summer’s World Cup, and David Ornstein reported on Thursday that the keeper was leaning towards joining Leeds.

The England youth international came through Manchester City’s academy, including a spell under Maresca when he coached the under-23s, before leaving for Burnley in July 2023 for £15m.

City then activated a buy-back clause last summer for £31m, but Trafford had limited game time behind new first-choice Gianluigi Donnarumma.

With City beginning life after Pep Guardiola’s departure, Maresca said that anything can happen when the transfer window is open and that, for now, Trafford is one of the club’s goalkeepers.
