Ethan Moore’s proposed permanent move to Gateshead is in jeopardy amid uncertainty over manager Rob Elliot’s future at the National League club.
Sunderland Echo understands the versatile 21-year-old forward had been lined up for a deal at the International Stadium after a promising loan during the second half of 2025/26.
His stint ended on the final day, when he scored his first senior goal in a defeat at Altrincham, before returning to Sunderland with his Black Cats future unresolved.
Moore is expected to leave when his contract expires this summer, and there had been an expectation Gateshead would keep him after Elliot set out his wish to secure the forward long term. The former Newcastle United goalkeeper previously praised Moore’s drive, improving fitness and potential, describing him as eager to play and a pleasure to work with.
Those plans could now be shelved, with Elliot’s own position shrouded in doubt. He is believed to be close to stepping down after recent meetings failed to produce agreement on how to move the club forward on and off the pitch.
