Don Goodman believes that the Foxes should be looking at bolstering other areas, rather than going for the former Leeds United man
EFL pundit Don Goodman believes that Leicester City should be looking at improving other areas of their squad, rather than moving for Stade Rennes midfielder Glen Kamara.
French outlet Foot Mercato revealed that it is "inevitable" that the Finland international, who was bought by the Ligue 1 side for £8.7 million after a solid year at Leeds United in the Championship, leaves the club in the upcoming winter transfer window, and that both Leicester and Ipswich Town are interested in bringing him back to the second tier.
The two may have to contend with top-flight side Nice for his services, but there's no doubt that, if either of the former Premier League sides can bring him back to his best in the Championship, they'd be offered a big boost to their promotion credentials in the second half of the campaign.
However, Don Goodman believes that, from a Foxes perspective, improvements to their defensive unit and attacking depth should be prioritised in January, instead of adding to what is already a more than saturated midfield pack.
In an exclusive interview with Football League World, former West Brom and Wolves frontman Don Goodman commented on the reports linking Kamara to Leicester, and believes that the Foxes should be prioritising adding to other positions.
"I wouldn't have thought that it [midfielders] would have been an area that Leicester needed an extra body in," he said.
"They brought in Jordan James in the summer, and they have Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Boubakary Soumare, too, so they're well stacked in that area — I would have thought that they needed a centre forward and maybe a central defender, too."
After Jamie Vardy's departure in the summer, the Foxes seem rather toothless up front, with the majority of their attacking threat coming out wide.
34-year-old Jordan Ayew has led the line in the majority of the games for Marti Cifuentes' side so far, and critics would argue that the Foxes need to freshen up that position over adding a new midfielder.
"The Glen Kamara we saw at Leeds was an incredible player, but it's been a rough couple of seasons since he left," Goodman continued.
"I don't really know, I think if you can get the Kamara who performed at Leeds, then maybe it's a good signing, but I don't really think it's an area on the pitch they need strengthening in.
"They should probably have other priorities."
Kamara's sole season in the Championship was impressive, and there was a reason that current QPR manager Julien Stephan wanted to bring him to Rennes, but after struggling to adapt in France, he was quickly shipped off on loan to Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
Now that he's seemingly available for transfer, it's no surprise that Championship clubs want to bring him back in the hopes that he can rediscover the form he exhibited at Elland Road, but for Leicester, they shouldn't be prioritising this over improvements elsewhere.
If Harry Souttar can return from his Achilles injury and continue where he left off at Sheffield United last season, then Marti Cifuentes may be okay for defensive reinforcements, but the lack of attacking firepower outside of Abdul Fatawu is slightly alarming.
If the Foxes want to push for the top two and an immediate return to the Premier League, they'll need to bring in a striker who can comfortably score close to double figures in the second half of the season, not someone who took just five shots in over 2700 minutes of Championship action the last time he was in the division.
