Lee Hendrie believes it will be a tight game between Coventry City and Norwich City as they clash this weekend.

The Championship returns this weekend, following the September international break, and we have an intriguing encounter taking place at the Coventry Building Society Arena as Coventry City take on Norwich City, with both sides seeking promotion.

Frank Lampard came into Coventry mid-way through the first-half of last season and led them to an impressive fifth placed finish, before suffering a dramatic play-off semi-final loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

They will once again be expected to challenge for promotion after a quiet summer transfer window, whilst Norwich have had a very busy window, in contract.

The Canaries managed to poach manager Liam Manning from Bristol City, and they have since spent relatively heavily with a view to try and push for promotion to the top-flight once again.

An intriguing clash between Coventry and Norwich

It has been a bright start to the campaign for both Coventry and Norwich, with the former perhaps even considering a tilt at the top two, such is how open this season’s Championship appears to be early on, and the latter certainly aiming for the top six.

The intriguing nature of the game is something that makes Lee Hendrie believe it will be a close affair, albeit he believes Coventry will just about shade things with home advantage.

Speaking exclusively to FLW, Hendrie said: “Tricky one. Obviously, Blackburn were the last team that Norwich played and they had a good result away from home.

“Coventry’s last home game with that 7-1 win, you’d think that confidence would be high, especially at home for Coventry.

“I think they’ll go and win. I just think they’ll have a little too much for Norwich. It’ll be a tight game. I’m going to say 2-1.”

Coventry and Norwich have started well this season

After a goalless draw on the opening day of the campaign at home to Hull City, Coventry managed to back that up with a thrilling 5-3 victory on the road against midlands rivals Derby County.

As Hendrie says, they also then annihilated Queens Park Rangers by seven goals to one to mark them out as comfortably the top scorers in the division, before a somewhat frustrating 2-2 draw at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford United.

Having begun the campaign with a frustrating 2-1 defeat at home to a strong Millwall side, the Liam Manning era had lift off when Norwich won away from home at Fratton Park against Portsmouth by two goals to one.

It has been a season of 1-2’s for Norwich, though, with that result followed by a defeat at Carrow Road against Middlesbrough, backed up by a victory at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers.

Both sides have shown susceptibility at the back, but it should be quite an entertaining watch for the neutral because, despite there being a 0-0 draw in the mix, their eight matches so far this season have consisted of 32 goals.
