FC Barcelona are prioritizing contract renewals for key personnel before diving into summer transfer activity. With a strong core already in place, the club’s immediate focus is on retaining its most valuable assets, especially the emerging talents who represent the future of the project under Hansi Flick.

The Catalan club have a lot of talented young players who have come through the academy and deserve long-term contracts. Back in January, the club renewed the contract of Gavi, Pedri and Ronald Araujo to tie them down to long-term deals.

Renew before reinforce

This week, the club has announced Hansi Flick and Raphinha’s renewals. Now, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are planning contract renewals for three other first-team players after the Brazilian: Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Eric Garcia.

Eric came close to leaving Barcelona for Como back in January for a fee of around €8m before Hansi Flick vetoed the transfer. Since then, the Spaniard has gone on to become one of the most important squad players for the German coach.

Unsurprisingly, Barcelona want to get him to sign a new contract to keep him here. Players like the 24-year-old Spaniard are almost impossible to find and he is equally comfortable providing depth in a number of key positions.

Romano has revealed that after Deco gets a deal wrapped up with Eric, the club will also proceed to hand new contracts to two breakthrough midfield stars: Marc Casado and Marc Bernal. The duo earned first-team prominence under Hansi Flick this season.

Casado had a brilliant campaign until his injury, which cut it short. Bernal on the other hand started Hansi Flick’s first three games in-charge before the youngster suffered a cruel ACL injury that ended the rest of his campaign.

A competitive midfield awaits

The duo will be back and available for Hansi Flick next season, and it is only fair that they earn new contracts at the club. One would assume that Barcelona will hand them wage-bumps in reflection to the players that they have become.

Barcelona’s decision to reward Marc Casado and Marc Bernal with contract extensions reflects both faith in their potential and recognition of their contributions before injury setbacks. Alongside Eric Garcia, who has emerged as one of the squad’s most reliable and versatile options, these renewals signal the club’s commitment to building around a young, adaptable core.

With competition for midfield places intensifying, especially with Frenkie de Jong in top form, the coming season will reveal just how central these players will be in Hansi Flick’s evolving system.
