Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United have no intention of selling Amad Diallo this summer amid surprise links with Newcastle United. He added on social media that Diallo’s camp were told in June that United plan to keep and trust the 24-year-old Ivory Coast winger.

That stance would appear to make any move to St James’ Park difficult, with United viewing him as an important part of their plans.

Diallo remains hugely popular on Wearside after a successful loan in 2022-23, when Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland reached the Championship play-offs and he scored 14 goals in all competitions.

The former Sunderland favourite has been closely followed by fans since returning to Manchester, where he has gradually established himself as a regular first-team option.

A switch to Newcastle would therefore be a major shock to many on Wearside, given the strong bond that endures with the player.
