Rotating their squad, Flamengo rested Alexey, with Shaq Johnson and Negrete the standouts. The victory keeps them level at the top with Pinheiros and Franca on 24 wins from 30 games.

At the Estádio Luso-Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro, Cruzeiro struck first but Mariana levelled to preserve Flamengo’s unbeaten start. The women now have two wins and two draws.

That came after a memorable Thursday 19 featuring four wins across the club. The under-20s beat Olimpia (PAR) to reach the Libertadores final, the senior side defeated Remo 3-0 in the Brasileirão, volleyball overcame Sorocaba 3-0 to lead the Superliga, and basketball beat Pinheiros in the NBB.

Attention now turns to Sunday 22. The Garotos do Ninho contest the under-20 Copa Libertadores final against Santiago Wanderers (CHI) at 18:30 Brasília time, then the first team meet Corinthians in the Brasileirão at 20:30.
