Flamengo have completed the signing of Colombian midfielder Jorge Carrascal from Dynamo Moscow for €12 million, with the player set to become the club’s headline summer arrival, according to Lance and Globo. The 27-year-old arrives as Flamengo’s first major reinforcement of the current transfer window, bringing with him experience across South America and Europe and a reputation as a creative attacking midfielder.
Carrascal’s transfer concludes negotiations that had lingered in recent weeks over the final fee. While Flamengo’s opening bid was €10 million plus bonuses, Dynamo initially sought €14 million before the clubs agreed on a middle ground of €12 million, to be paid in instalments. Carrascal had already settled personal terms and is expected in Rio de Janeiro by the weekend.
Originally developed at Millonarios in Colombia, Carrascal made his professional debut at just 16. He later spent time with Sevilla B in Spain and Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine, before his profile rose significantly during his stint at River Plate between 2019 and 2022. At River, he featured in 81 matches—starting 37—scoring nine goals and providing six assists. He contributed to five trophies, including the Recopa Sudamericana and domestic titles. However, as Lance notes, his time in Buenos Aires split opinion among River supporters, with some describing him as technically gifted but inconsistent, particularly in decision-making and defensive work.
Following his time in Argentina, Carrascal moved to Russia in early 2022, first joining CSKA Moscow, where he won the Russian Cup. He transferred to Dynamo Moscow in August 2023 and enjoyed a productive season: across 37 appearances in 2024/25 he scored eight goals and contributed five assists, averaging a goal involvement every 183 minutes. His most recent campaign demonstrated improved consistency, especially in the final third, where he created eight major chances and averaged over one key pass per game.
Carrascal's impact has also extended to the international arena. He has been capped 19 times by Colombia, scoring twice and providing two assists, and was part of the side that finished runners-up at the 2024 Copa América.
For Flamengo, Carrascal’s arrival should inject attacking creativity and versatility to a midfield seeking more imagination, particularly amid concerns about turning possession into clear-cut opportunities. His skill set aligns with Filipe Luís’s intent to bring more verticality and unpredictability to the side. Flamengo’s attention now turns to other targets, with left-sided attack and central forward options high on the recruitment list before the transfer window closes in September, according to Globo.
Carrascal’s signing follows the addition of midfielder Jorginho and signals Flamengo’s renewed ambition to remain competitive in both domestic and continental competitions. With his technical quality and varied experience, fans and coaches alike will hope Carrascal can quickly become an integral part of Flamengo's midfield structure.
