Flamengo have stepped up their move to sign Luiz Henrique, 25, from Zenit, with talks now at an advanced stage after a delay in Almada’s response. The proposal is around 30 million euros plus five million in bonuses.

According to Globo.com, the forward has given his approval and would become the club’s highest earner if the deal is finalised. In transfer value, he would sit behind only Lucas Paquetá, who joined Flamengo for 45 million euros in January.

Zenit signalled from the outset that they wanted the full fee to be fixed and would only reduce it if a player were included. Botafogo considered involving Danilo after Zenit showed interest, but he asked not to play in Russia.

Paquetá said he joked with Luiz Henrique about a possible move during Brazil duty at the World Cup and praised his quality, adding the attacker would be very welcome. He made the remarks at a press conference on Monday.

A Fluminense academy graduate, Luiz Henrique moved to Betis in 2022, then returned to Botafogo in 2024, winning the Libertadores and the Brasileirão. He was voted Rei da América that year and was in Brazil’s World Cup squad this season.

Zenit announced his signing in January 2025, and he has since scored seven goals with five assists in 46 matches for the Russian club. Flamengo have pursued him across several windows and there is optimism around a breakthrough this time.
