According to Globo.com, Flamengo reach the World Cup break with mixed form, meeting only one of three targets, the Libertadores last 16, while exiting the Copa do Brasil and failing to cut Palmeiras’ lead, though two fronts remain.
On the up are Evertton Araújo, Pedro, Samuel Lino, Bruno Henrique, Paquetá, Plata and Emerson Royal. Jorginho returned well from injury and reclaimed prominence, perhaps the squad’s most important player.
Pedro and Lino have surged under Jardim. Evertton capitalised on midfield absences to secure a place after progress with Filipe Luís, while Bruno Henrique was key in the Libertadores and has renewed.
Royal still divides fans, but the new shape suits him and he has improved after ending 2025 poorly. Paquetá adapted to Brazilian football and impressed despite a recent injury. Plata turned a rocky start into a starting berth.
Léo Pereira, Léo Ortiz, Danilo, Varela, Pulgar and Arrascaeta largely maintained last year’s level. Ayrton Lucas remains heavily questioned, used more due to Alex Sandro’s fitness, and Vitão stays a reserve.
Sliding are Rossi, Alex Sandro and Carrascal. Errors have renewed criticism of Rossi. Alex Sandro is enduring a poor 2026 despite a call-up and probable World Cup start. Carrascal’s form and red cards mean he could be listed for transfer depending on tournament.
De la Cruz had bright spells but fitness problems limited him. Saúl remains short after early-year surgery. In attack, Everton Cebolinha has had few chances and will not renew before his December expiry, while Wallace Yan struggled and Luiz Araújo lost influence.
