Maracanã is set for a sparse crowd as Flamengo host Madureira on Monday 2 March after sluggish ticket sales. According to Coluna Do Fla, only 10,000 tickets had been sold by Monday, despite prices from R$ 15 via ingressos.flamengo.com.br and availability even in the usually quick-selling Setor Norte.
The second leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final kicks off at 21:00, Brasília time. Flamengo won the first meeting 3-0 last week, so they can afford a defeat by up to two goals and still progress.
The smallest home attendance for the first team this year was that first leg, when 22,730 turned up at the Maracanã. There is a strong chance that unwanted mark will be surpassed.
The team’s form has blunted enthusiasm, with recent defeats in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Recopa Sul-Americana to Corinthians and Lanús (ARG) respectively. Supporters have also protested at the Ninho do Urubu and at the Maracanã. The Monday 21:00 slot further dampens turnout.
On Sunday 1 March, Fluminense drew 1-1 with Vasco and, having won the first leg 1-0, booked their place in the final on 8 March. They will face Flamengo or Madureira.
