FC Barcelona made only three first-team signings this summer, one of which was bringing Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United with a permanent buy option.
The 27-year-old England international had been on the Catalans’ radar since January this year, but a transfer was not possible at the time. But the stars aligned during the summer, with both player and club getting their wish fulfilled.
Rashford arrived at Barcelona after an indifferent season at Manchester United, where he had fallen completely out of favour. While he did show glimpses of his quality on loan at Aston Villa during the second half of the campaign, he is still far from his best.
As such, SPORT reports that Rashford is seen as a is a personal challenge by Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. The German tactician has taken it upon himself to help the forward recover his best version after a turbulent period in his career.

Rashford has already started two of Barcelona’s four official matches this season, and that is no accident or coincidence – it is part of a plan.
The aim is to restore his confidence, immerse him in Barça’s philosophy, absorb automatisms, and integrate him alongside players like Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal, who are vital to the system.
To that end, the performance against Valencia this past weekend was a step in the right direction. Starting his second match in four La Liga games this season, he was incisive, bold, connected, and willing to try.
Rashford provided an assist in his trademark fashion and created a couple of good chances. As such, there is belief and optimism within Barcelona that he can contribute and make a difference in decisive moments.
