Florent Ghisolfi hails Tutierov as Sunderland hand new deal after York show | OneFootball

Sunderland have confirmed that Timur Tutierov has signed a new contract after the 21-year-old impressed in a 5-1 pre-season win at York City.

Director of football Florent Ghisolfi said the deal rewards Tutierov’s progress and attitude, praising his humility, work rate and desire to learn.

The extension recognises development since his arrival from Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka in April 2023. He began 2025-26 strongly for Sunderland’s under-21s, with six goals and one assist in seven Premier League 2 games.

That form earned a loan to Exeter City, his first taste of senior football in England. He returned this summer after three goals and one assist in 17 League One appearances.

His future looked uncertain at the end of last season, with suggestions he could leave permanently in a deal similar to those for Zak Johnson and Harrison Jones. Sunderland have since shifted stance, handing an extension that reflects belief in his long-term potential.

Tutierov will aim to build on his York display through the rest of pre-season. Another loan could be considered to secure regular minutes, although Europa League and domestic cups may create chances within Le Bris’ squad.
