Real Madrid held their highly anticipated Ordinary General Meeting today, a key annual event where members gather to review the club’s financial statements and approve the budget for the new season.

But beyond the numbers, this edition carried an emotional weight.

During the presentation, a tribute video showcasing the club’s recent triumphs brought the entire arena to its feet, celebrating iconic figures such as Carlo Ancelotti, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez.

The atmosphere shifted from analytical to emotional the moment Luka Modric’s farewell message appeared on screen.

As the Croatian’s words resonated through the pavilion – “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – the entire hall erupted in heartfelt applause, honouring a man whose legacy stretches far beyond statistics.

The ovation continued as images of Ancelotti, Vazquez and even Marcelo were projected, setting the stage for Florentino Perez’s address.

Once on stage, the Real Madrid president began calling out each departing legend individually, starting with the coach who delivered so much silverware.

“I ask you to recognize all those who have completed their time with our club. And I want to start with Carlo Ancelotti, the most decorated coach in our history, with 15 titles.

“He has earned our affection forever because he represents the values of Real Madrid. Thank you, Carlo. This will always be the club of your life.”

On Modric and Vazquez

He then turned to Modric, whose departure had already stirred emotion across the fanbase. Perez took a moment before continuing the tribute with,

“Also (the arena erupts in thunderous applause)… Modric. He belongs to the heart of Real Madrid. Because he has represented it.

“Respected by all. Rivals and fans alike. He is the most decorated player in our history, with 28 titles. Dear Luka, thank you for your football. An honor to see you play in this shirt.”

The president then celebrated homegrown favourite Lucas Vazquez, highlighting his contribution to the club’s modern history. With great appreciation, Perez added,

“And a special thank you to one of our homegrown talents, Lucas Vazquez (another round of applause). He has finished his time here after winning the hearts of all Madrid fans.

“He leaves as a legend, with 23 titles. Lucas Vazquez gave everything for our badge.

“Madrid fans will never forget his dedication or his walk to the penalty spot in the Undécima (eleventh European Cup), at San Siro.”

Finally, attention turned to Jesus Vallejo, a player admired internally for his discipline and professionalism. Perez concluded this section of tributes by saying,

“And finally (applause returns) I want to thank Jesus Vallejo. An example of professionalism. He leaves with 13 titles.

“Thank you Jesus, you take with you the affection of everyone and we wish you all the best.”

On the current lot

Once the emotional acknowledgements concluded, the president shifted to the club’s present and future ambitions.

After a transformative summer that saw major arrivals, Perez proudly explained the club’s strategy, stating,

“The key is the mix of extraordinary players with great talent, all of them loving Real Madrid

“This year we’ve also brought in Xabi Alonso, who embodies Real Madrid’s values. He’s won everything with this club and made history with Bayer Leverkusen.

“And we’ve signed some great players, like Trent, a Liverpool legend who won nine titles with the Reds, and Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras. I’m sure they’ll continue to bring us joy.

“Franco Mastantuono, the youngest player to debut for Argentina in an official match, has also joined the squad.

“They join a team with players like Vinicius, The Best 2024; Kylian Mbappe, who won his first Golden Boot and already has 18 goals this season.

“Courtois, Bellingham, Valverde, and Huijsen are also nominated for The Best award this season…”

To close his speech, Perez turned to the current captain, Dani Carvajal, paying tribute to the defender’s growing legacy. With pride in his voice, he reminded the members,

“A team where our captain, Carvajal, has the honor of equaling Paco Gento’s record of six European Cups.

“A team that leads La Liga, with a game in hand, and is also near the top of the Champions League. We must continue building the club’s history,” he said.
