"Porto is in mourning. It is with shock and deep regret that we send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who was also our youth player. May they rest in peace."
His football journey began in Portugal with Pacos de Ferreira. Although he signed with Atletico Madrid in 2016, he never featured for the Spanish club, instead going on loan to FC Porto and then Wolverhampton, where he eventually signed permanently in 2018.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2020 and quickly became a key part of the squad under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. Over 182 appearances, he scored 65 goals and provided 26 assists, helping the team claim domestic and European trophies.
Among his achievements with Liverpool were Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup titles. He also featured in the 2022 Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Internationally, Jota debuted for Portugal in November 2019, taking part in both the 2020 and 2024 European Championships. An injury kept him out of the 2022 World Cup, but he helped Portugal win two UEFA Nations League titles, the latest of which came this past May.
