Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has described his time with the Nerazzurri as the only real regret of his career.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Viviano admitted that emotional decisions shaped many of his career moves, but his Inter chapter stands out.
“In my career I made several decisions with my gut. That’s the only real regret I have,” he said.
“I never played because I did everything I could to leave, against the will of the club. Julio Cesar was in his final year, they were looking toward something new and they told me that too, but I didn’t believe them. One of the mistakes I mentioned.”

Earlier in his career, while co-owned by Bologna, he had already caught the attention of Jose Mourinho.
“He definitely watched me closely during a fairly delicate Bologna–Inter match. He did it in his own way: he stood behind my goal for the whole warm-up. It was his way of telling me, ‘I’m watching you,’ to see how I reacted under pressure. But it was also a clever way to put pressure on me in that game.”
Inter later reappeared in Viviano’s career after his stint with Sporting CP.
“Handanovic got injured, I had the medicals and even a training session, then I was shut in a hotel waiting for nothing. They never really explained what happened. Some said it was Handanovic’s will, others Conte’s. In the end Piero Ausilio called me and said, ‘Vivio, it’s not happening.’ And that was that.”
Looking back, Viviano’s story with Inter remains a tale of missed timing and misunderstandings — a chapter that still leaves a lingering sense of what might have been.
