Rav van den Berg is set to join 1.FC Köln in the German Bundesliga. The former Feyenoord target will move from Middlesbrough for around 10 million euros.

Former club PEC Zwolle are going to benefit with this transfer. They agreed a generous 20% resale percentage for the 21-year-old defender when he departed to Middlesbrough two years ago for a mere €300,000.

As Voetbal International’s Rob Aarts calculates, it’s best to “assume a transfer fee of ten million euros. This would mean Middlesbrough makes a profit of €9.7 million on Van den Berg. PEC is entitled to 20 percent of that amount. That amounts to approximately €1.94 million.”

Now to the solidarity contribution. “This amounts to a total of five per cent of the transfer fee paid, in this case €500,000. PEC will receive an estimated €230,000 of this. All in all, the Zwolle side will retain over €2 million from Van den Berg’s transfer. It is likely that this amount will be paid in instalments.”

Two years after his departure, Van den Berg will now become one of the most lucrative transfers in PEC’s history. Last year, the transfer of his older brother Sepp to Brentford also earned the Zwolle side millions.
