Postecoglou lasted 39 days at Forest, making history as one of the shortest managerial reigns in Englsih football.

That was his second dismissal in months after he was sent packing at Tottenham despite leading them to their first piece of silverware in 17 years.

After suffering back-to-back dismissals in the Premier League, Postecoglou’s CV has taken a massive hit, but he’s still firmly involved in the game.

His new role at UEFA paves the way for him to apply his tactical knowledge by analysing matches at the highest level.

He joins a respected group of observers that includes Sir Gareth Southgate, Roy Hodgson, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roberto Martinez.

Technical observers are assigned to UEFA club competitions and tasked with studying matches closely.

They work alongside UEFA’s performance analysis team, using video and data from several angles to assess tactics, coaching decisions and player performances.

Their findings help UEFA understand how the game is evolving. Postecoglou started his new chapter by watching Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Inter Milan from the stands.

The former Spurs manager analysed the game ‘from a coaching perspective’.

After watching Gabriel Jesus bag a first-half brace, Postecoglou praised his ‘alertness in the box’, saying it ‘gave Arsenal a cutting edge to complement their ability to create opportunities from various avenues’.

All technical observers collaborate to decide the Team, Player, Young Player and Goals of the Season.
