France have climbed to number one in the FIFA rankings, a little over two months before the 2026 World Cup.

As reported by Le Progres, Didier Deschamps' side returned to the summit after March wins on their American tour, beating Brazil 2-1 then Colombia 3-1. The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July.

They edge Spain by less than one point. Spain drew 0-0 with Egypt on Tuesday after a 3-0 win over Serbia last week.

It is France's first spell at the top since September 2018, in the wake of their World Cup triumph in Russia.

Defending champions Argentina, 5-0 winners over Zambia on Tuesday, are third, 2.5 points behind France.

England sit fourth after a 1-0 defeat by Japan at Wembley on Tuesday, around 50 points adrift of the leading trio.
