France will deploy 22,000 police and gendarmes on Saturday 30 May for the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal, kick-off 18:00.
Interior minister Laurent Nuñez announced the operation on Wednesday in an interview with Brut, with 8,000 to be stationed in Paris and its wider urban area. The match will be played in Budapest.
During last year’s final in Munich, which PSG won 5-0 against Inter Milan, 5,400 officers were deployed in the Paris region. The victory prompted violence on the Champs-Élysées and near the Parc des Princes, where the match was broadcast, as it will be on Saturday.
“There will be pedestrianisation of the Champs-Élysées from the middle and a police operation to contain any disorder,” Nuñez said, speaking to La Tribune Dimanche. “I have no fear, I am calm and determined.”
He added that the Paris police prefecture is working with the club on a potential trophy presentation in the capital on Sunday if PSG win, with a celebration at the Champ-de-Mars under consideration.
In 2025, police made 563 arrests on the night of the victory, including 491 in Paris, leading to 307 people in custody. A further 79 were arrested the following night. At the time, Nuñez was Paris police prefect and Bruno Retailleau was interior minister.
