Thomas Frank says Spurs duo Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven apologised to him following an incident after the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Both appeared to snub Frank and headed straight down the tunnel instead after their 1-0 loss but Frank says everything is fine.

“Micky and Djed came into my office yesterday unprompted and said they wanted to say sorry for the situation,” the Tottenham boss said.

“They didn’t want it to look bad or disrespectful or the sort of perception you can get in this beautiful media world.

“That was not their intention at all towards me or the team or the club. They were just frustrated with the performance, with the loss, and the booing during the game.

“If they didn’t come in, of course I would have to ask them about the situation, what they were feeling, why they were doing it, because we all have a perception. None of us knows (why) so that would be my first question to them, how were they and why.

“Of course I’m happy (they apologised) because I knew the question would come today. And that means they care. I think that’s very good. They care about the team, the club, in this case me and I’m happy with that so that’s very good.

“We just had a good talk about a lot of things and like with everything we’ll keep it internally.

“It would be very, very, very unusual if I ever throw a player under the bus. We’re all human and I will always protect them. Always.”
