The Dutch remain top of Group G, with a game in hand on Poland and Finland, but it was a frustrating night in Rotterdam.

The hosts dominated the majority of the contest, as Robert Lewandowski made his return for Poland, and Denzel Dumfries slotted them in front.

However, with Koeman’s charges unable to close the game out late on, Aston Villa star Matty Cash rocketed home a superb goal to seal a point for Poland.

Alongside the result, there was also an injury concern in the closing stages, as Koeman substituted midfielder Frenkie de Jong on 86 minutes.

Koeman issues De Jong injury update

Koeman indicated there was no need for alarm in his post match press conference as the former Barcelona boss claimed the La Blaugrana star ‘felt tightness in his glute, so we didn’t take any risks’ as per Diario Sport.

De Jong’s injury record sent a wave of concern back to Catalonia with the club still working on several routes to try and extend his contract beyond 2026.

The former Ajax star appears back to his best under Hansi Flick and the club are determined to retain him in the long-term.

Koeman’s comments indicated the 28-year-old would remain with the squad but that has since changed.

Barcelona will also be keeping a close eye on his recovery ahead of that game with Flick’s team back in La Liga action on September 14 at home to Valencia.

There is no current update over how long De Jong could be sidelined for with Flick hopeful thee Dutch decision is based on precaution at this stage.
