Fulham have confirmed Marco Silva’s departure after five years in charge at Craven Cottage. According to The Telegraph, the 48-year-old is expected to take over at Benfica to replace José Mourinho, who is reported to be heading to Real Madrid.
Silva arrived in 2021 and will leave this summer. A return to his homeland would follow earlier spells at GD Estoril from 2011 to 2014, Sporting Portugal in 2014-2015 and Olympiakos in 2015-2016.
Since 2017 he has worked in England with Hull City and Everton before establishing himself at Fulham. He won the Championship title in 2021-2022 and secured immediate promotion in his first season.
Fulham then stayed up comfortably, something they had not managed after their previous two promotions. Under Silva they became a stable mid-table Premier League side.
The Cottagers have finished between 10th and 13th and reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history in 2023-2024. He said the club would always be in his heart and that he would return to Craven Cottage one day.
