Marco Silva has brought his five-season spell at Fulham to an end, closing a successful chapter at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.
According to Glorioso 1904, he is understood to have settled the main terms with Benfica on a long-term project he has long wanted to take on.
The announcement came days after he flew to London to deliver the decision in person to the Fulham hierarchy. Despite a renewal offer, the 48-year-old chose to end his tenure after several conversations about his future.
The farewell was accompanied by a highlights video and reflected on a five-season stint widely regarded as successful.
He is now preparing a return to Portuguese football after more than a decade away. Since leaving Sporting in 2015 he has worked at Olympiacos, Hull City, Watford, Everton and Fulham.
With his exit confirmed, the way is practically clear for a new challenge, once the final steps related to José Mourinho's succession are completed.
