Joan Laporta will officially begin his new term as Barcelona president on Wednesday, July 1, when he is formally sworn into office after winning the club’s presidential election on March 15.

The ceremony will take place at the Auditori 1899, beginning at 12:30 pm, with club executives, staff members and former Barcelona presidents expected to attend, confirms Ferran Correas of SPORT.

A busy day before the ceremony

Laporta’s day will begin well before the official event.

Earlier in the morning, Barcelona’s incoming board of directors will hold its first official meeting. The seven directors who have governed the club since Laporta stepped down to contest the election will formally resign before being reappointed by the president.

Although they will immediately join the new board, their appointments must still be ratified at the club’s next General Assembly of Members.

Laporta will also assign responsibilities and departmental roles to each member of his new executive team.

Outlining the vision for the next five years

With his newly assembled board seated in the front rows, Laporta is expected to deliver a comprehensive address outlining the priorities for his new mandate.

Among the main objectives expected to feature in his speech are: completing the construction of the Spotify Camp Nou and the Espai Barça project, maintaining the club’s sporting success, and continuing the club’s financial recovery and long-term stability.

First major press conference since the election

Following the ceremony, Laporta will hold a press conference where he will answer questions from the media.

Although Laporta has attended numerous Barcelona matches and made brief public appearances since winning the election in March, Wednesday will mark his first full media appearance as the club’s officially installed president.

Several key issues are expected to dominate the press conference.

One of the main topics is likely to be the ongoing dispute with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Over recent months, Perez has repeatedly referenced the Negreira Case and has taken aspects of the matter to UEFA.

Barcelona have responded by initiating legal action against the Real Madrid president, and Laporta is widely expected to address the controversy directly.

Julian Alvarez saga could also be discussed

Laporta may also respond to recent criticism from Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin, who publicly questioned Barcelona’s pursuit of striker Julián Álvarez.

With Barcelona continuing to explore a move for the Argentine forward, the president is expected to be asked about the club’s transfer strategy, alongside several other issues surrounding the team’s sporting project.

Wednesday’s ceremony therefore represents more than a formal inauguration. It marks the beginning of Laporta’s new presidency and offers his first opportunity to publicly set the direction for Barcelona’s next chapter, both on and off the pitch.
