Reds return to Istanbul for Champions League showdown
Liverpool travel to Galatasaray in their second game of the Champions League League Phase. Arne Slot’s side needed a last-minute winner from Virgil van Dijk to defeat Atletico Madrid 3-2 on a dramatic night at Anfield on matchday one, after Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah had put the Reds up by two inside six minutes. Marcos Llorente netted a brace as Atleti almost snared a point, but van Dijk rose highest in injury time to power home a corner and claim all three points.
Now, Liverpool come into this game having lost their unbeaten streak in the Premier League. They were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace - a second defeat by the Eagles this term - after Eddie Nketiah struck a stoppage-time winner at Selhurst Park to preserve Palace’s own unbeaten record. Hugo Ekitike missed that game due to a suspension that he earned for two yellow cards against Southampton in the League Cup, but he is back in contention for a start tonight.
If the Frenchman were to get the nod, it would likely be in place of fellow fresh face Alexander Isak, who has started the last two games for the Reds, and he played 84 minutes against Palace before being withdrawn. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Slot lines up for this one, and you can follow all the updates and action with our live blog below!
