Gary O’Neil drew a clear contrast with former club Wolves as he faced the media for the first time as Ipswich Town manager.

Ipswich have appointed the 43-year-old on a three-year deal from French side Strasbourg as they return to the Premier League, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

He took charge at Molineux in August 2023, leading Wolves to 14th in the Premier League and the FA Cup quarter-finals, before being sacked in December 2024 with the team 19th.

His final game was a 2-1 home defeat by Ipswich, a fourth straight league loss and their 11th in 16 league matches.

O’Neil’s first season featured standout wins over Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

A dramatic FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Coventry City denied a Wembley trip and proved a turning point in his tenure. He had also signed a new long-term contract.

Reflecting on his Wolves stint, he said he learned a lot and described it as a club run very differently to Ipswich, adding that this was a key reason for taking the job.

During his reign, Jeff Shi was executive chairman at Wolves. He has since stepped down, with Nathan Shi now in the role.
