Gian Piero Gasperini released his interview as Roma’s brand new head coach.
The Italian technician was announced earlier today by the club, who welcomed him with an interview on their official website.
“The first impressions are undoubtedly very positive,” said Gasperini who signed on with the Giallorossi until 2028.
“I came today for the first time to Trigoria, I did not know this center which is wonderful, functional, the best for those who want to work in these situations.”
“The club convinced me because it is a great challenge. I needed to have a big challenge to look forward to, to come to an environment with great passion.”
“This gave me great enthusiasm, the opportunity that Ranieri, the club, the ownership gave me. A great adrenaline that I needed to do something good.”
“Roma have a great passion and want to reach great goals. In my opinion, all the conditions are there because there is a very strong ownership, which wants to make Roma grow, to take it to highest levels.”
“Then there is a person like Ranieri, who alone is already a guarantee for the club, for the fans. There is a very young sporting director, but with an excellent track record, even in terms of scouting – they are all very prepared. I believe that there are the best conditions to do a good job.”
“When I came to play in Rome, even previously as a player, then with Genoa, with Atalanta, I always found a team that played with quality, in an environment that spurred them a lot.”
“Maybe in these last few years they experienced a bit of a decline, but the arrival of Ranieri has given the environment back strength again and also important results. Roma, despite the last few years not having lived up to expectations, remains an environment that if you manage to play football and you manage to also provide a good way of playing, in addition to the result, I believe it can help a lot.”
“My teams have always played in a certain way, with intensity, aggression, but not only that, we have always been a team that has scored a lot of goals, that has always thought about scoring one more goal than the opponent rather than conceding a few less even if in recent years we have improved a lot in the defensive phase. So, the characteristics after so many years in Serie A are known, I would like to put them into practice in Rome too.”
“The fans? The first thing that will have to be done, by me and the team, is to be able to get them on our side. And you can do that through convincing performances, where people identify with your team, regardless of the result. Being able to play good games, with people satisfied to see their team play that way, then the result is what makes everything.”
“My commitment and that of the team will be to bring the fans to our side, it will be the first task we will have to do.”
