Of course, the mercato is a vital time for every club, but for AC Milan, the stakes riding on this summer are sky-high. With a new manager, a new project, and a need for a new lease of life, several things must be sorted, but there cannot be panic or rush.

In an ideal world, when Paulo Fonseca holds his first training session on Monday, he has his full squad available to him, plus the names he wants through the door. Unfortunately, football often does not work in that way.

Nevertheless, everyone knows this, and whilst there is a need for several things in the window, there is also a need for patience among the ranks.

As much as Milan may desire Joshua Zirkzee through the door, they cannot panic or rush to complete a deal because they could overpay or potentially buy the wrong player. With the signings required this summer, there cannot be a late panic for players, but there cannot be a rush to sign someone for the sake of things.

This is very much the case for three players that the Diavolo are watching, currently.

The wing-back situation

This morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) stated that they knew their initial bid for Emerson Royal would likely not be accepted, given they offered €10 million less than what Tottenham Hotspur are asking for.

Instead, this was likely done to fully confirm their interest whilst gaining an idea of the reaction to a figure in that region and getting initial feedback on a deal. After all, speaking about a deal for less than the demanded value and tabling one gets different reactions.

There is no worry or rush, though, given the player has already agreed on personal terms with the club, it now is a case of tabling a new offer when the time is right, but there is no need to panic, and the club are calm.

Milan’s striker department

Whilst there is a need to add a new striker or two, there is no need to panic, especially considering that the majority of Milan’s targets are currently away on international duty. As Gazzetta states, there is often less movement during international tournament windows, so this factor must be accounted for.

This morning, reports have strengthened the suggestions about the Diavolo’s pursuit of Alvaro Morata, and he seems a leading option among the management, but he is not the only plausible candidate.

Instead, there is still interest from several other profiles, such as Romelu Lukaku, who remains an intriguing option for the club.

However, no one has ‘lost their calm’, and there is no sense of panic or stress, instead, there is a serenity, after all, calm heads prevail. Ideally, the first striker would have arrived yesterday, but that would be an invitation to risk overspending, instead, there is a desire to remain calm, which the club will do, happily, given there is a long time left in the window.
