FC Barcelona’s visit to Getafe ended in a 1-1 draw, but the match was overshadowed by several regrettable incidents, including racist abuse directed at Alejandro Balde, which was documented in the referee’s match report.
However, it was not just Balde who faced hostility from the opposition fans; Getafe supporters also mocked Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, during the game at the Coliseum.
In protest against the Spanish Sports Council’s (CSD) decision to grant a temporary precautionary measure regarding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, some of the home fans directed offensive chants at Laporta.
These chants were captured by ‘Movistar+’ cameras, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo and included lines such as “Laporta, fatty, you’re a Phoskitos” and “Sell me a box, Laporta, sell me a box.”
Additionally, Getafe supporters jeered Barcelona players as they took to the pitch for the pre-match guard of honour, and another chant echoed from the stands: “It is a mafia, Barcelona is a mafia.”
It must be noted that a section of the Azulones supporters were chanting against Barça over the registration matter outside the stadium even before the match started.
It remains to be seen whether La Liga will include these offensive chants in the complaint report that it submits each week to the Competition Committee and the Anti-Violence Commission.
