As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Roma are looking to bring in Atalanta forward Gianluca Scamacca in the summer.
Roma’s last-day Champions League-qualifying heroics put them in a strong position in terms of squad rebuilding and preparation for a stronger campaign next season.
Scamacca’s close relationship with Gasperini is well known; not everyday do players invite their coaches to their weddings. The 68-year-old wanted the Italy international at the Olimpico last summer as well, though no move could materialise amid concerns over the ACL tear that sidelined Scamacca for pretty much the entire 2024/25 season.
Subsequent muscular issues and an adductor injury did keep Scamacca away from action for a while this season as well, though when he has featured, he has looked promising, having managed to put up a double-digit goals tally in Serie A.
With his contract expiring next summer, Scamacca could be available for a bargain price.
Maurizio Sarri’s imminent arrival at Atalanta means Scamacca’s chances are likely to remain few and far between next season regardless of his availability.
Given recent links to Taty Castellanos, it is clear Sarri will prefer to stick to the centre-forward profile that works for him and reunite with Castellanos.
So Scamacca should push for a reunion of his own. Gasperini and Champions League football are good enough reasons for him, and he could strike up a fruitful partnership up front alongside Donyell Malen. His numbers this season suggest he has managed to recover well both from his ACL lay-off and the ill-fated West Ham stint before it.
