”Give Celtic 56” – Rangers Fans React to Russell Martin

Russell Martin is now odds-on with Betfair to take over at Ibrox — but if the fan reaction is anything to go by, Rangers might as well hang out a Do Not Enter sign and hand Celtic the 56th title already. The outpouring of anger, sarcasm and disbelief flooding our Facebook post was nothing short of volcanic. Rarely have we seen such a one-sided slaughter.
And let’s be clear — this isn’t a vocal minority moaning while the silent majority nods along. We counted well over 70 comments across the board, and barely a handful were remotely supportive. The rest? Carnage. “A disaster,” “no feekin way,” “totally hopeless,” and even “give Celtic 56” — that’s the mood in the room. It absolutely echoes the same disillusionment we covered in our earlier transfer analysis, where doubts were already brewing about the vision — or lack of one.
It’s all made worse by the fact the takeover is complete, and with it came hope of a new era — but this Martin talk has smothered that hope in one big tactical shrug. Fans see him as inflexible, too in love with pretty football, and someone who failed at the top level. Even those trying to defend him cite his “style” — but style without results gets you nowhere in the pressure cooker that is Ibrox.
Now sure, we’ve seen worse shouts. And yes, he played for the club — but this isn’t a nostalgia contest. This is about Rangers needing a winner, a leader, someone who can handle the madness of Glasgow and still come out swinging. Martin? The support clearly says no.
The ball’s now firmly in the board’s court. They either hear the fans and act accordingly — or push through a wildly unpopular decision and risk the wrath. Because if Russell Martin walks through those front doors at Auchenhowie with a club tracksuit and clipboard, the noise from Ibrox won’t just be loud… it’ll be deafening.
